Introduction to Dissociation
Dissociation is far more common than many clinicians realize, yet it remains one of the least understood and most frequently overlooked areas of mental health practice.
This introductory course is designed to help therapists, counselors, social workers, psychologists, and students develop a practical understanding of dissociation and how it presents in everyday clinical work.
Rather than focusing on diagnosis alone, this course explores how dissociative experiences affect memory, identity, perception, emotional experience, and self-understanding. Through clinical examples, case studies, quizzes, reflection exercises, and case conceptualization activities, students will learn to recognize dissociative experiences with greater confidence and curiosity.
The goal is not to become a dissociation specialist overnight. The goal is to develop a strong foundation that makes dissociation feel less intimidating, more understandable, and easier to recognize in clinical practice.
